The alleged disappearance of the names of around seven thousand voters from the list of Raipur South Assembly constituency created flutter in political circle on Tuesday even as senior member of Raman Cabinet and Bharatiya Janata Party candidate from the constituency Brijmohan Agrawal raised objection and also lodged complaint with the Election Commission.
Agrawal accused the Election Commission of working in a biased manner. He asked the poll observer to make the necessary amendment within an hour or else quit the job. Agrawal threatened that if the EC failed to remove the anomalies in the voters list he should even knock the doors of Supreme Court.
Terming the issue very serious, Chief Minister Raman Singh said that he would also right to his party's Central leadership to take up the issue with the Election Commission as it was related to fundamental rights of thousands of people.
According to BJP workers, names of thousands of voters, belonging mainly to upper caste Hindus, mysteriously disappeared from all the four constituencies of Raipur depriving voting rights to them even if many of them had reached polling booths to cast their vote holding the voters slip issued by election commission. However, in the new final voters list which was issued only on November 13, names of as many as 7,000 names of Hindu voters were missing from Raipur South constituency alone, which led to heated arguments between election officials and voters who were not allowed to cast votes.
