Some unidentified thieves sneaked into a flat located in New Rajendra Nagar locality and made away with gold jewellery worth around Rs7 lakh, police said here on Sunday.
The theft occurred in the flat of Kabirdham District Deputy Jail Superintendent, DD Tondar currently posted at Kawardha.
“The front lock of the house was not broken but was opened; so it seems that someone acquainted with the place could be behind the incident. However, we are investigating,” City Superintendent of Police (CSP) Neeraj Chandarkar told reporters.
He informed that Tondar’s wife had brought the jewellery in a box a few days back and had kept it under the bed.
“Tondar occasionally comes to the house located at Rishabh Enclave at New Rajendra Nagar every month or so and most of the time it remains locked,” the CSP said.
According to him, Tondar couple along with their children had gone to Darjeeling when the theft occurred in the house. They came back on Sunday and reported the matter to the police. It seems between April 19 or 20 the culprits had entered into the house, he said adding, police had registered a case in this regard and were investigating.
