Some unidentified persons broke into a bank located on Dhaneli road under Dharsinwa police station limits and made away with Rs3.75 lakh cash after cutting vault of the bank, police said on Friday. According to police, theft was reported in Allahabad Bank located at Dhaneli road Dharsinwa on Friday. “Thieves had used gas cutters to enter into bank and also cutting the safe kept in bank,” Station House Officer (SHO) Dharsinwa Alim Khan told The Pioneer.
Bank had closed on December 24 and owing to Christmas holiday it reopened on December 26. Khan suspects that the thieves carried the loot between these two days only. CCTV footage shows three persons entering the bank through a window on back side of the bank and cutting the vault by the gas cutters. However thieves were masked which has made it difficult to identify them, Khan added.
“It seems that the theft was the handiwork of some professional gang who had planned the theft well in advance. Although involvement of any bank official could not be ruled out, but from the preliminary investigations possibility of involvement of bank officials is thin. However we are investigating the crime from that angle as well,” SHO remarked.
He further said that alarm system of the bank failed to alert while the vault was being cut by the gas cutter. There were security guards but the lighting outside bank was not sufficient. A case in this connection has been registered and police has begun investigation.
