The 500 MW Korba West Extension Power Unit of Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company limited (CSPGCl) developed a technical problem and stopped production on Friday.

This has resulted in shortage of 500 MW power in the State even as CSPGCl’s top management is taking all possible measures for meeting the shortage caused by the snag, company’s senior officials informed.

“We are trying to get power from other sources to maintain electricity supply as per the State’s requirement,” informed Chhattisgarh State Power Distribution Company limited (CSPDCl) Executive Director, GC Mukherjee. He said that the engineers at the plant have informed that it will take about a fortnight to rectify the technical snag for restarting production at the unit. The work has already been started on a war footing to rectify the problem to start production at the earliest, he said.

In the meantime, the State Government will source power from private companies, other States or Central public sector undertaking units to supply electricity to the consumers. He said that in case of power shortage, the CSPGCl can go for load management to maintain a balanced supply in the State. Mukherjee said that on previous instances of power crisis, the electricity supply to the industrial units was stopped during peak hours to supply the same to consumers of other categories.

He regretted for the inconvenience caused to rural and urban consumers due to technical snag in the company's Korba unit and appealed to the people to cooperate.
