Chhattisgarh is working on a mission mode to implement ‘Jal Jeevan Mission’ in the state by 2023. Each household will be provided a water connection, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Saturday.

He was holding a review meeting with Union Jal Shakti Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat here. Chhattisgarh Public Health Engineering Minister Guru Rudra Kumar was also present.

The Chief Minister said under the scheme, water has to be supplied  55 litres per day per       person. Keeping this in view, to ensure long term availability of water, the government is working on ground water recharging through ‘Narva’ development scheme.

Positive results have been obtained and water level has increased, he said.

Baghel urged the Centre to increase its share from 50 to 70 percent under the scheme. He said 14 districts are Naxalite affected and dense forests. There is also no electricity. Baghel also raised the issue of dues pending to Chhattisgarh under GST.

The Union Minister said the work has to be done on priority.

Public Health Engineering Secretary Siddharth Komal Singh Pardeshi said the plan is to provide tap connections to 22.14 lakh families. A total of 39.81 lakh families are to be covered under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
