Take special care of eyes, health: Expert

Published on:

People should take special care of eyes and what they eat during Diwali, the Chhattisgarh government said on Saturday.

Dr Subhash Mishra, Director (Epidemic), warned that consuming excess of sweets as well as snacks            during the festival can lead to issues of health.

He said carelessness while lighting firecrackers can harm eyes besides hands and fingers. Smoke from firecrackers can cause           redness in the eyes along with a feeling of burning.

Bottle-fired rockets can lead to serious injuries to unsuspecting people, even damaging their eyes, he warned. Exploding                   firecrackers can affect eyesight.  Dr Mishra urged elders to supervise children when fireworks are lit.

He urged people to use a long stick to light the firecracker, and to wear protective goggles. In case of itching or burning or bruising of the eye, an ophthalmologist must be consulted without delay.
