The State Transport Department on Friday appealed to the owners of passenger buses and transport vehicles to take advantage of ‘One-Time Settlement’ scheme.
It is meant for those who had not paid taxes before the due date, officials informed.
The Transport Commissioner Department officials revealed that the ‘One-Time Settlement’ scheme will close on February 28, 2017. The officials called upon the vehicle owners to utilise the opportunity and pay taxes as soon as possible. It may be mentioned here that Chief Minister Raman Singh had approved the ‘One-Time Settlement’ proposal at a Cabinet meeting on September 27.
The Transport Department officials had started implementing the scheme. The proposal will cover six wheeler vehicles, 10 wheelers, 12 wheelers, 14 wheeler vehicles, 18 wheelers and 24 wheel vehicles.
The officials said that 39.82 lakh vehicles of different categories are registered in the State. The passenger vehicles’ owners pay monthly taxes which change at regular intervals. There is a provision for penalty if the owners do not pay taxes on time.
The rules state that the amount of penalty cannot be higher than the taxes amount due. There are several vehicles whose amount is several times higher the normal taxes. Most of the vehicles are not plying on the roads.
The officials said that the Transport Department is giving an opportunity to the owners of the vehicles to wriggle out of the defaulters’ list.
The officials said that for the term period 2005-2008 the waiver of penalties and interest will be 75 per cent and for 2009-2012 term period the waiver will be 50 per cent.
If the vehicles’ owners do not clear the arrears than
vehicles will be seized and
registration will be cancelled and cases will be filed against the owners.
