Swine flu claims fourth life in Chhattisgarh

Published on:

Chhattisgarh recorded its fourth swine flu death this year with a 54-year old woman succumbing to the virus in Durg district on Sunday. This is the second swine flu death in Durg district with earlier one of a teacher on February 12. “The 54-year woman succumbed to the disease in Durg district as reported on Sunday.  One more patient tested positive in the report received today,’ said Director, Health Services, R Prasanna.

Prasanna said that as many as 29 samples of suspected swine flu patients were sent to National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday. With this, the total samples sent to NCDC till date becomes 277. He further said that reports of 165 samples have been received from NCDC till date of which 38 have tested positive so far.

Notably, four swine flu patients have died within ten days in the State. The first victim was a 27-year old teacher who had succumbed to the disease in a private hospital in Durg on February 12. This was followed by the death of 25-year old pregnant woman from Bemetara who had died in a private hospital in Raipur on February 13.

A 54-year old auditor of Police Headquarters (PHQ) had died at Apollo Hospital, Bilaspur on February 16. The isolation ward of Dr BR Ambedkar Memorial Hospital Raipur has seven suspected swine flu patients under treatment. Medical experts believed that the virus will not be able to sustain at higher temperature but the present fluctuation in temperature is conducive for H1N1 virus. The night temperature is quite low and a further rise of about 10 degree Celsius in night temperature will destroy the virus.
