A powerful improvised explosive device (IED) planted by Naxals was recovered in Sukma district while elsewhere security forces managed to nab a suspected Naxal against whom a permanent warrant had been issued, police said here on Wednesday.
The powerful IED weighing 10 kg, planted by Naxals, was found near an under-construction culvert in Sukma district, police said.
The explosive was unearthed by a team of CRPF’s 217 battalion under Maraiguda police station limits while para military forces were patrolling to ensure security to the under-construction Maraiguda-Golapalli road, a CRPF official said.
About 4 kms away from Maraiguda at around 11:45 am, they spotted the explosive placed in a steel container hidden on a side of the road just ahead of the under-construction culvert on a rivulet, he said.
The explosive was immediately destroyed by the bomb disposal squad at the spot, he said adding that it was meant to harm security personnel during their operations in the area.
The suspected Naxal, of 22 years old, was arrested by a team of BSF and DF personnel near Chikhli village under Badgaon police station limits, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) (Naxal Operation) Jayant Vaishnav said.
He was identified as Fatte Singh Salam resident of Mudla village under Pratappur police station limits.
“A warrant was issued against Fatte Singh that was pending with Partappur police station,” the DSP said.
