Suspected 'bomb' turns out hoax

Recovery of a bomb-like object from an unclaimed bag from the toilet of a sleeper coach of Mumbai-Howrah Mail created a scare at Raipur Railway Station on Wednesday.

However, the object later turned out to be a ‘coconut’ attached with lED light and a pair of batteries, suspected to be placed by miscreants to create terror among the passengers.  The incident resulted in delay of around 20 minutes for the departure of the train, said Railway officials.

According to them, after arrival of Mumbai-Howrah Mail at the Raipur Railway Station  at around 9 am, a group of passengers rushed to the Station Manager and informed about an unclaimed bag abandoned in toilet of the train’s coach number-12 following which the incident was informed to the police.

After being informed about unclaimed bag containing an object attached with lights, personnel of Government Railway Police (GRP), Railway Protection Force (RPF), local police and dog squad swung into action. A RPF constable took the unclaimed bag out of the train’s toilet before arrival of Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS).

Preliminary investigation carried out by BDS experts revealed that the object was a piece of coconut attached with lED light and pair of batteries, said Railway officials, adding that the object was suspected to be placed by miscreants in the train’s toilet with an intention to create sensation. Police have registered a case and started investigation, said officials.
