A survey of the number of scavengers working in localities under various civic bodies of Chhattisgarh had been carried out by the State Government.
The outcome of the survey would now be utilised for devising policies for proper rehabilitation of the scavengers, an official statement informed here on Wednesday. The Urban Administration Department had already directed the civic bodies to speedily publish the list of scavengers in their jurisdictions. The publication of the list of scavengers would be done as per the guildelines laid down by the Union Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment.The survey list would be published from the concerned Tehsil offices of the State besides inviting claims and objections from the general public on them.
The concerned Tehsildars had been appointed as the Grievance Redressal Officers for the published lists. The lists of scavengers are also to be published in the local publications. The Tehsildars had been directed to ensure that no religion or caste of the scavengers are mentioned in the list. The claims and objections from the general public would be invited within 15 days of the publication of the list.
