nFifteen surrendered Maoists tied the nuptial knot at a mass marriage function organized by police in Chhattisgarh's Dantewada district on Valentine’s Day on Sunday.
“As part of the rehabilitation of surrendered leftwing insurgents, we organized this mass marriage,” Inspector General of Police (Bastar) Sundarraj P said.
According to police, the Maoists who surrendered under the ‘Lon Varratu’ (Homecoming) got married.
Under the programme, Dantewada police reach Maoist strongholds from where Naxalites recruit their cadres and paste photos of those who are with the Maoists and request them to surrender.
The programme was launched in 2019 and since then over 310 Naxalites have turned themselves in, the police said.
Those who married on Sunday include hardcore Naxalites who were members of Maoist platoons, local guerrilla squad, area committee and Jan Milita.
