Super speciality department in the apex healthcare institute of the country AIIMS, Raipur, is expected to come up by January, said deputy director (administration ) of the organisation Neeresh Sharma.

With nine outpatient departments (OPD) functional presently, India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), is getting a warm response from the citizens. The OPDs cater to around 200-250 patients everyday whereas 80-100 pathological tests like urine, blood, sputum are administered daily. Treatment of diseases pertaining to cardio, neuro, ophthalmic, cancer, drug etc will be looked after the super speciality department.

Sometimes, after looking at the mighty infrastructure, people think that the treatment in AIIMS would be very expensive but the admission, diagnosis and treatment charges are very nominal, said Sharma. Apart from infrastructure, which is far from completion, the major challenge in front of AIIMS administration is the recruitment of doctors. “The recruitment drive ended on November 25 and the process of interview and final selection is yet to be done. Once we are through it, our staff strength will get a good boost,” Sharma said. Procurement of hi-tech machineries and equipments for foreign countries is also on the priority list of the apex healthcare body.

Departments like gynaecology, orthopaedics, dental, pulmonology etc are functional at present. Facility of X-ray will begin within a day or two, said Sharma.
