The Chhattisgarh Government has issued an order for distribution of text books and uniform to students before the commencement of the new academic session in a bid to equip them in advance and provide quality education.
The Government also warned the private schools from collecting any fees from students who have got admission under the Right to Education Act (RTE) under which 25 per cent of seats in a private school is reserved for poor students.
According to the Government order, students from Class I – VIII will have to be given uniform as well. The Government also scrapped the scheme of distributing cycles to female students who hail from Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (SC&ST) communities and those living below poverty line (BPl) on account of supply of poor quality cycles.
This time, instead of cycle, cost of a cycle would be given to the student who would be able to purchase a quality one, said Commissioner Bastar Division RP Jain during a review meeting held here.
He also instructed the officials to distribute the scholarships of students through their bank accounts and to ensure that there is no discrepancy in its distribution.
Female superintendents would also be appointed in every girls hostel for the safety of girls, he said, adding, timely inspection of hostels should also be done to redress any grievances if they (students) have.
The Commissioner also directed the officials to use alternative source of energy like solar energy to light up the schools and provide quality Mid-day meals to the students and warned of stringent action against those violate it.
He also took stock of the progress of various Government schemes and programmes run in the division for the welfare of the tribals.
