The School Education Department in Chhattisgarh has made it mandatory for teachers of all government schools to remain on duty but said attendance is not compulsory for students from Class 1 to 8 from April 15.

In an earlier order, the current academic session was extended from March 31 to April 30. An additional academic session was to be taken from May 1 to 15, an official communication said on Thursday.

The new order of the Directorate of Public Instruction to all the Divisional Joint Director Education and District Education Officers states that after April 15, it is not mandatory for the students of government schools from Class 1 to 8 to attend classes.

The parents have been given the option to send their children to the school or keep them at home.
