Both the BJP and the Congress have reacted sharply to Tuesday’s Maoist attack on the CRPF contingent at Jeeram valley in Maoist heartland of Bastar region with the latter demanding Chief Minister Raman Singh’s resignation.
BJP State president Vishnudev Sai in his statement while paying tribute to the martyred security personnel said that their sacrifice will not go in vain.He said that the Congress should stop playing politics over Naxalism. “The State Government would deal firmly with the insurgents,” Sai said.
The State BJP president said that the Maoists have no faith in the democratic system, which is the cause behind them intensifying their attacks before polls to create terror. The Maoists have once again proved that they are ‘anti-development’ and ‘anti-people’ and are enemies of peace and democratic system, Sai said. He said that the Centre has no concrete policy on countering Naxalism, which is the legacy of the Congress. The Congress had been playing vote-bank politics, Sai said.
On the other hand, Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Bhupesh Baghel and leader of Opposition TS Singh Deo, while holding Chief Minister Raman Singh morally responsible for the deaths of security personnel in the attack by Maoists, demanded his resignation. The leaders in a joint statement while strongly condemning the Maoist attack on the security personnel said that the State Government, by holding high-level meeting on the Naxal incidents, had simply been conducting a formality. The State Government had information about some major attack being planned by Maoists before the polls, but it did not take any firm action. The insurgents easily execute their plans repeatedly and get success in implementing their intentions, they said.
The leaders demanded immediate clarification from the Chief Minister over the incident while expressing their condolence towards the martyred troopers and a civilian who also died in the attack.
