Sterilisation operations on women were carried out overlooking every rule and directive in Bilaspur district, stated leader of opposition TS Singhdeo, and CGPCC President Bhupesh Baghel on Thursday.
This is not for the first time that such kind of incident has happened in Chhattisgarh and despite that, the State health department has done nothing to improve the situation, they said in a Press release issued here.
“The Supreme Court of India had provided guidelines that that operations should be carried out between 9 am and 3 pm. However in Pendari, operations were performed till 6 pm. The equipments used in tubectomy should be stored in antiseptic solution at least for 20 minutes and there must be difference of 30 minutes between every operation. All these rulings were overlooked,” Singhdeo said.
In the camp, sterilisation operation of Chaiti Bai, a Baiga Tribal woman was performed. The Baiga Tribe is a specially identified tribe protected by Government of India. Chaiti Bai also died after the operation, he said.
He further claimed that the sterilisation camp in Pendari was earlier scheduled in Government hospital Kota. However the venue was changed to Pendari suddenly and the place where operations were conducted was closed for past 4 months, both the party leaders claimed.
Singhdeo questioned that Mahavar Pharma was banned earlier also but under what circumstances was the company permitted to compete for tender for supplying medicines.
