Steel makers in the mineral-rich Chhattisgarh have hailed a key Government decision to slash power tariff to ailing steel industry.
They asserted that Government decision would help steel industry in the State to come out from sluggish phase.
In a major relief to the ailing steel industry in Chhattisgarh, the State Government slashed the power tariff for the steel plants by Rs 1.40 per unit.
The decision has been widely appreciated as the steel industry in the state is passing through a very difficult phase.
“Slashing power tariff would be a big relief for the industry in Chhattisgarh,’’ Ashok Surana, former
president of Chhattisgarh Mini Steel Plant association said, adding, “it would help the steel industry in the State to match up competition with steel
makers of other States’.
The steel plants would now pay Rs 4.60 per unit.
Surana said that Steel Industry in Chhattisgarh was in dire need of Government help as the rising power tariff had posed a serious threat to
existence of dozens of mini steel plants.
Chhattisgarh has 150 mini steel plants producing 3,50,000 tonnes of steel per annum.
