Addressing the 29th session of Synergy, the apex communication platform for the top management of Bhilai Steel Plant to interact with cross section of executives, the Chief Executive Officer, S Chandrasekaran on Saturday said that at a time when new goals and priorities for action have been fixed by the top management of the company as part of a turnaround strategy, the need of the hour is for us to `stay focussed on what is being expected’ from us in Bhilai and communicate the same down the line.
``The top leadership of the company has always had great faith in the capabilities of the Bhilai collective to deliver desired results and it is up to us now honour our commitments and work towards fulfilment of SAIl’s turnaround plan,’’ Chandrasekaran remarked.
``While concern for safety must be pre-dominant, we have to tighten our belts to control costs and expenditure,’’ the CEO opined. While Executive Directors of the Plant interacted with participants, Manas Panda, ED (MTI) was specially present to address the participants.
After CEO’s opening remarks and the presentations on current business scenario and performance of the plant during the current fiscal year, turnaround strategy and priorities for action being taken by the company, the house was opened for discussions during which participants raised concerns and highlighted issues to which CEO and Executive Directors responded.
In his address, R K Rathi, ED (Works) who has recently taken charge in Bhilai, said, ``the tasks and targets have been clearly spelt out. It is now up to us how fast we can act so that the objectives of the turnaround plan can be achieved’’.
Expressing confidence in the strength of the Bhilai collective, he said, ``we can achieve our targets if we align ourselves properly and work to plan. Most of the cost control targets spelt out are about our operational efficiencies,’’
Manas Panda, ED (MTI) who spoke highly about the presentations made before the participants spelt out the three broad challenges before the SAIl collective as producing what sells, producing at a cost that would fetch us a margin at the current prices, and to generate surplus. ``We must work in a manner that we have an advantage both in terms of cost and quality,’’ he said. Bhilai has been the leader in SAIl and as such it is expected that Bhilaians would show the way to other units, he further stated.
