Consistent and result-oriented performance by Chhattisgarh State Power Generation Company ltd (CSPGCl) which is currently producing 2424.76 MW of electricity has made Chhattisgarh a truely power surplus State in the country.

CSPGCl’s power generation capacity will increase to 3424.76 MW as soon as its 2X500 MW power plants in Madwa (Janjgir-Champa) start production, officials informed.‘CSPGCl is continuously trying to excel and ensure uninterrupted quality power supply to Chhattisgarh’s citizens under able guidance and leadership of Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh’, Principal Secretary, Energy & IT and Principal Secretary to Chhattisgarh Chief Minister,  Aman Kumar Singh told The Pioneer.

Apart from high capacity, the power plants of the company have also achieved highest Plant load Factor (PlF) on many occasions in comparison to the power plants of other power generating companies of the country.Starting with 1360 MW capacity at the time of formation of Chhattisgarh in November 2000, the company rose to the challenges and increased its power generation capacity to 2424.76 MW.

CSPGCl has recently established a 500 MW plant in Korba which is the highest capacity power project of the company. Earlier the highest capacity plant run by the company was 250 MW only.Similarly, work is going on at war footing to complete the construction of 2X500 MW power plants in Madwa-Tendubhata of Janjgir-Champa district. The construction of both the units of 500 MW capacity each is nearingcompletion. Once the units start production, the total power generating capacity of the company will increase to 3424.70 MW.

CSPGCl has not only established new plants but also made qualitative improvement in the existing plants to increase their capacity and PlF besides reduction in specific oil consumption.Apart from excelling in power production, the State has also achieved a lot in the field of power transmission. The Chhattisgarh Power Transmission Company ltd (CSPTCl) at the time of formation of State had only 27 Ultra High Tension Sub Station and 5205 circuit kilometre lines.

At present, the company is transmitting power with capacity of 12,804 MVA with help of 84 Ultra High Tension sub stations and 10340 circuit kilometre lines. The company has taken innovative measures to lay double lines in different areas of the State. This will help the company to maintain power supply if supply from any one of the lines is disrupted.

At present, 97.83 % villages of the State are electrified. The beneficiaries include 3,39,000 agricultural pumps by the farmers and about 16 lakh single light connections to the poor families. To supply electricity at required voltage in villages and cities, the company has established 888 Sub Station of 33/11KV. The number these sub stations were just 248 at the time of formation of the State.

The State government has successfully completed its vision to provide electricity to everyone and this is highlighted by the increase in number of consumers which was 19 lakh at the time of formation of State and has reached 38 lakh in present time. For a better customer service, R-APDRP scheme has been started. The company is striving for development and it is due to the developments, the demand for electricity has increased three times. The distribution company has successfully maintained the status of ‘zero power cut’ State since January 1, 2008.
