Taking note over the reports of National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) President Bhupesh Baghel on Sunday alleged that law and order situation in Chhattisgarh region has totally deteriorated.
Addressing a press conference here, the State Congress Chief demanded imposition of President’s rule in the State. He said that the NHRC has found 16 women, prima facie victims of rape, sexual and physical assault by the State police personnel in Chhattisgarh whereas statements of 20 victims are yet to be recorded by the NHRC team.
The NHRC report clearly indicates that dozens of physical as well as rape/sexual assault were committed by security personnel in Chhattisgarh region for which State government is vicariously liable, alleged Baghel.
In the year 2011, the fake encounter of Meena Khalkho in Balrampur district where the judicial commission found that police personnel raped the deceased before killing her.
Similarly, the CBI report claimed that police had set ablaze houses during anti-Naxal operation in Sukma district but no action has been taken so far, he alleged.
CGPCC demands to impose Article 356 of the Indian Constitution which refers to President’s rule, Baghel said.
