All the 37 lakh farmers of Chhattisgarh will receive soil health cards for their land within the next five years.

The State Agriculture department has prepared an action plan for the scheme.

This was announced by Agriculture Minister Brijmohan Agrawal while reviewing the progress of the scheme at a meeting of senior officers here.

Vice-Chancellor, Indira Gandhi Agriculture University Dr SK Patil informed the meeting through a power-point presentation about the soil health card project prepared by the Gujarat Government.

Thereafter, he informed about the preparations underway for providing soil health cards to the farmers of Chhattisgarh.

He said that a scheme has been prepared to distribute soil health cards to all the farmers of the State within the next five years.

He said, at present about 6.82 lakh farmers of the State had been given soil health cards. The cards will be provided to the remaining 30 lakh farmers, at the rate of 6 lakh cards per year, within the next five years. For that, 102 new laboratories have to be established, he added.

The cards will have technical and other key information regarding cultivation of the land concerned and details of type of soil and the proper crops to be cultivated in it, Dr Patil said.

On getting detailed information of the project, the Agriculture Minister directed to take services of special advisers for the work.

He said that after preparing proposal of the project, it would be sent to the Central government for its approval.

Agrawal also directed to send a proposal for establishment of new laboratories to the Centre.

The Minister directed to complete the project in coordination with the Revenue Department and the Chhattisgarh Infotech and Biotech Promotion Society (CHIPS).
