As Monsoon is active in Chhattisgarh during the last two-three days, good rainfall has been recorded in various districts, including Raipur. More than 4-inch rainfall has been registered in lohandiguda of Bastar and Bilaigarh of Balodabazar.

Because of continuous rainfall more than a dozen major dams of the State, including Gangrel, Dudhava, Tandula, Sikasar and Kharkhara were filled up to their full tank level (FTl), whereas, six gates of Gangrel dam have been opened, because of continuous inflow of water. As per the Meteorological department, monsoon has been active across the State due to the buildup of low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal and cyclonic wind near Jharkhand and Uttar Pradesh. However, the weather department has informed that as the system developed near the Bay of Bengal, Jharkhand and UP has been weakened, there would be possibility of light or medium rainfall in Chhattisgarh.

Agriculture scientist Dr ASRAS Shastri said, as the system has been weakened rainfall will be stopped in next 24 hours. At present, the State will have light to moderate rainfall, he added. According to information received from Disaster Management Department, water level of almost all the dams of the State have been increased due to continuous rainfall. Gangrel’s six gates opened A report from Dhamtari said that six gates of Gangrel dam have been opened due to torrential rain. Because of heavy inflow of water in the dam, 22,330 cusecs water has been released to the river, which attracts huge crowd of visitors to the dam.
