The untimely rainfall brought about by cyclonic conditions prevailing in the Arabian Sea is worrying farmers in Chhattisgarh as harvesting season would commence in a fortnight.
Any further rain and moisture could cause damage to the standing crops, the farmers fear. The sudden drop in temperature is however making people in the State prepare for winters now with rain adding to an even cooler weather. The farmers have not even emerged out of the Hudhud cyclone from the country’s eastern coast which caused heavy damage to crops in Chhattisgarh early this month.
Immediately after the cyclone which hit several parts of Chhattisagrh, Chief Minister Raman Singh had held an emergency meeting with senior officials at his residence on October 13 and had issued directives to carry out survey of the crops damaged and provide proper guidance to farmers whose farm lands have been inundated with rain water.
