The Chhattisgarh Pradesh Congress Committee (CGPCC) president Bhupesh Baghel and Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader TS Singhdeo on Monday met AICC president Sonia Gandhi in New Delhi and discussed at length, reasons for the party’s defeat in Chhattisgarh. They also met party vice-president Rahul Gandhi.
During the meeting both the AICC president and vice- president expressed need for uniting the party and working together.
Notably, speculations about a change in Working Committee of State Congress are doing the rounds after the party’s defeat in State Assembly elections.
Singhdeo, told The Pioneer over phone, said that the formation of new Working Committee would be initiated by State Party General Secretary In-charge. However he said that the time frame for the change is not yet decided.
The ClP leader also said that the new Working Committee may come up soon seeing the upcoming civic body elections and Panchayat elections. To a query about party members who have not worked for the party during elections Singhdeo said: ‘ I had personally raised the issue and suggested to identify and sideline those people who being in party worked against the favor of Congress party. The suggestion was accepted’
He informed that he and Baghel reiterated that defeat in Mahasamund and Korba parliamentary seats was totally unexpected.
Singhdeo expressed surprise that former State Chief Minister Ajit Jogi was defeated from Mahasamund lok Sabha seat despite maintaining massive lead in early vote counting.
