Former Minister and Congress party leader Amitesh Shukla on Thursday said that as per a report on ‘India State Hunger Index,’ the ‘Starvation Index’ in India is 23.3 percent while that of Chhattisgarh is 26.06 per cent.
“The data is derived in the report keep in mind three factors — number of undernourished persons, number of children weighing less than average weight and mortality rate of children dying before attaining age of 5 years,” he said.
Coming down heavily on the State Government, he said in Gariaband district, the BJP won two Assembly seats and despite this, not a single penny was given for the development of the district.
Over his defeat from the Rajim Assembly seat, the Congress party leader remarked “though I was defeated in the election, but there was an increase of 12,000 votes in my favor as compared to what I got in 2008 elections which I had won.”
