SPs ordered to search out CCTV cams

Taking a cue from Goa incident where Union HRD Minister Smriti Irani had spotted a CCTV camera pointed towards the trial room of a high-end apparel stores, Chhattisgarh police on Saturday directed all Superintendent’s of Police to check garment shops and malls for ensuring that no CCTV cameras are installed in the ladies changing rooms.

Additional Director General of Police Rajiv Shrivastava said that such provisions are already in place; however, taking note of the incident of Union HRD Minister, “we have asked SPs of all districts to carry out strict checking in malls and shops,’’.

“We should be alert as prevention is better than cure. If any such complaint is received then prompt and quick action would be taken against the erring person,” the ADG said. According to ADG, the move is to ensure that if there are any ladies changing rooms in malls, garments shops or any such place then there must be a sense of security.

“The SPs have been ordered to keep checking shops regularly and also conduct surprise checking for ensuring that these kinds of activities do not happen. This will also create a sense of fear for law in persons working over there and they would refrain themselves from indulging in such activities,’’ he added.
