Special admission drive to promote RTE in Naxal land

The State Government, in a bid to promote education among children in the Naxal infested Bastar district, has decided to the run a week-long special drive to enroll as many students as possible in schools.

The drive, however, will be focused mostly in all the developmental blocks in the district.

A decision to this effect was taken in a meeting of District Collector Ankit Anand with other senior officials of the district.

The meeting was primarily held to discuss about the implementation of ‘Right to Education Act 2009 (RTE) Act.’ As the collector was

not happy about the number of students taking benefit of the RTE Act, he directed the officials to carry out a week-long special drive to enroll eligible poor students in schools under it.

The drive, he said, would start from Nirmal School, Jagdalpur Developmental Block on May 1 this year from 10 am and would continue until 4 pm.

The Collector has also instructed the Block Education Officer, Education Department’s Nodal Officer and heads of all the schools to be present in their respective schools during the special drive.

The parents of eligible students were asked reach school certificate of date of birth and BPl card.

Those possessing these two documents, the collector said would be given immediate admission without any delay.

However, he said even those parents who would later possess these documents also could be given admission subject to their agreement to submit them in future. Under this drive, admission would be given only in Nursery and Class I.

RTE Act provides free and compulsory education to students of economically backward families.

Under the Act, it is mandatory for every school to earmark their 25 per cent seats in the school for poor children.
