Speaker seeks probe into corruption charges

Published on:

The Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker on Wednesday asked the Minister to probe allegations raised by members over corruption in different departments.

During Question Hour, BJP's Ajay Chandrakar raised the point of anomalies in answers of the Panchayat and Rural Development departments on return of unutilized funds of various schemes to the exchequer.

He pointed out that departmental replies to other questions were ambiguous. First, it referred to recalling Rs 323.44 crore and spending of Rs 121.72 crore. Then it speaks about recalling Rs 113.38 crore.

Chandrakar pointed out that the reply has one more anomaly which states that the amount was to be deposited with the treasury or departmental directorate. He demanded a probe into corruption of around Rs 210 crore by the department.

Intervening, Speaker asked Chandrakar to table all the replies in the House so that a probe can be initiated.

Congress MLA Sant Ram Netam raised the issue of corruption in spending of Rs 95.85 lakh in Kondagaon district under the National Health Mission.

Cabinet Minister Mohammed Akbar replied that the amount was utilized for training.

Netam said that physical verification of training has not been done. So, the matter should be probed. BJP members backed the Congress MLA stating that the matter needs enquiry.

The Speaker then directed the Minister to probe the issue.
