Death of a gym operator in the state due to use of banned steroid was raised on third day of winter session of Chhattisgarh assembly through a call attention motion moved by former minister Ajay Chandrakar, Brijomohan Agrawal and Shivratan Sharma.
Chandrakar said one gym operator and trainer Sandeep Singh Thakur had been hospitalized after banned steroid was used and is critical. Government has failed to control its use across the state.
Parliamentary affairs minister Ravindra Choubey in his reply informed the House that Thakur has died while undergoing treatment. He was admitted on November 12 and died on November 25 in a private hospital.
He had used steroid injection suggested by Nitesh Parmar of Mumbai and Sumeet Rai Choudhary of Raipur.
State government through Food and Drugs Administration department has been conducting regular raids and testing is being done on regular basis, the minister said.
Minister said details will be available after post-mortem report when Chandrakar claimed that steroid used for horses was apparently used. Offence under section 308, 326, 34 of IPC has been registered.
BJP MLA Brijmohan Agrawal suggested that supplements distributed through gyms be also brought under purview of inspection as most are administered without certified doctors or fitness trainers.
Shivratan Sharma demanded to ban korex.
When minister said there is no specific rules in the country as well as in the state, speaker then asked the minister to frame law and rules for monitoring the gymnasiums in the state.
