SP Sukma transfer takes political turn

The transfer of Superintendent of Police (SP) Sukma Jitendra Shukla on Tuesday took a political turn with the BJP and the Chhattisgarh Janta Congress jointly criticizing the state government while alleging that Congress government was trying to pressurize administrative officials to get their wishes fulfilled.

Notably, the 2013 batch IPS Jitendra Shukla was recently transferred from Sukma after which he wrote an emotional post on Facebook terming the transfer as ‘unexpected and unwanted’.

Later on, a letter surfaced in which Shukla had directly replied to state excise Minister Kawasi Lakhma reportedly refusing to transfer an inspector as requested by the minister.

Shukla in the letter refused to execute the transfer pointing out that it was the responsibility of the district superintendent of police (SP) to maintain the law and order, which he does with coordination of lower police staff.

Shukla was removed on March 7 and DS Maravi was given the charge of Sukma SP.

While talking to media persons Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel had stated that Shukla was removed for directly writing a letter to a minister.

Leader of opposition Dharamlal Kaushik while targeting the ruling party said regular transfer of police officials has proved that the Chief Minister lacks sense of administration.

“Chief Minister Baghel has accepted that Sukma SP was removed for directly writing a letter to a state cabinet minister.

It indicates that other transfers are also being carried out as a form on punishment,” Kaushik said.

JCJC President Ajit Jogi also flayed the state government for transferring Sukma SP within two months of appointment

Jogi while accepting that transfer following a change of government was a routine process, said “everything has a limit. Such routine transfer is not a good sign of governance.”
