The Agriculture Department is going for enhancement of the total sown area for pulses during the forthcoming Kharif season in Raipur Revenue Division by seven per cent.
The decision would take up the sown area for pulses from the current level of 101.21000 hectares to 108.48000 hectares.
Similarly, a target had been set for enhancing the sown area for oilseeds by 6 per cent while taking it further from the present 169.79000 hectares to 180,000 hectares. Moreover, the Department had been motivating farmers to take to a far more profitable cultivation of oilseed and pulse crops compared to the traditional paddy grown by them.
For this, farmers are being encouraged through the ‘crop diversification initiative’ as part of a strategy to devote lesser area to paddy cultivation and more for the crops from the oilseeds and pulses basket. A provision had been made to offer Rs 2,000 to enourage farmers to taking to cultivation of oilseeds and pulses crops instead of the summer season paddy cultivation for 2013-14. A target of 108.48,000 hectares of sown area for pulses crop had been set for the coming Kharif season in the Raipur Revenue Division.
