Sonia, PM give breather to Raman Govt

Published on:

With the arrival of UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, the BJP Government in Chhattisgarh, which was virtually cornered on the issue of not providing security to Congress leaders resulting in death of a number of them in a Maoist attack.

It got a lease of life as the violent demand of Congress leaders and workers spearheaded by former Chief Minister Ajit Jogi virtually died down overnight when after holding a top level meeting with Governor Shekhar Dutt, Chief Minister Raman Singh at the Raj Bhawan in presence of some of the BJP and Congress leaders, the duo declared that it was not the time to discuss the success and failures of each other but to control the situation and give befitting reply to the Maoists who threatened the democratic norms.

Tone of the Congress workers who were burning Vikas Yatra posters of CM throughout the State Saturday evening and Ajit Jogi himself who had gone to Raj Bhawan demanding dismissal of Raman Government also changed in tune with the announcement of their leaders.

Though, Union minister of State for home R P N Singh who also descended in Raipur along with Sonia Gandhi and Manmohan Singh held responsible the State Government for the major lapse of not providing security cover to Congress leaders and worker despite earlier warning and which led to the massacre of Congress leaders, too said that the Central Government would not prefer imposing President Rule in the State as the situation warranted united fight against the rebels who are negating the democratic rule.

Notably, thousands of angry Congress workers led by Ajit Jogi had gone Raj Bhawan Saturday evening, as soon as the news of Maoist attack on Congress convoy in Darbha valley in which more than a dozen of Congress leaders and workers were killed started trickling in.

Demanding dismissal of the Raman Government which according to them abysmally failed in providing security to Congress leaders who had gone to Sukma, the hot bed of Maoist insurgency, to attend the Parivartan Yatra meeting.

The Congress leaders also alleged BJP Government

having secret alliance with Maoist who allegedly allowed Vikas Yatra to take off from Dantewada peacefully but attacked Parivartan yatra of the opposition Congress.

The Congress leaders went on rampage throughout State burning posters of vikas yatra and attacking BJP regional/

district offices throughout Chhattisgarh for Government’s failure to provide security to Congress leaders.

In support of their demand, they had also called for state bandh on Sunday which passed off peacefully even as the state observed complete bandh to mourn the death of their leaders.

Notably, arrival of Congress national Vice

President Rahul Gandhi, Chhattisgarh in-charge B K Hariprasad and AICC

treasurer Motilal Vora late Saturday by a special plane had fuelled the speculation of Centre planning to impose President’s rule in Chhattisgarh as the naxal attack on Congress leaders convoy killing several of them due to l;ack of security provided a fit situation for

dismissing the BJP Government ruling the state for last nine and half years but for a while it got the breather as Congress Supremo preferred not to impose Central rule specially ahead of the Assembly polls due by

year end.
