Expressing happiness over selection of Raipur in the ‘smart city’ list, Mayor Pramod Dubey said the foundation of smart city concept was laid during tenure of Congress led UPA Government.
Besides, State Government assistance and implementation of proposed plan, active participation of people will be required to develop Raipur as a ‘smart city’, he said while interacting with media on Tuesday.
The Mayor called upon the people to inculcate the habit of maintaining cleanliness, greenery and ensure use of toilet for making the city Open Defecation Free (ODF).
“Initially, Raipur didn’t manage to secure berth in list of smart cities development project following which corporators from the Opposition staged protest against Raipur Mayor. By closely reviewing the shortcomings, the RMC has incorporated a series of points in the proposed plan which include pond conservation, proper water supply, rooftop garden, smooth traffic, installation of CCTV cameras for safety, connectivity, green space and other,” added Dubey.
According to the Mayor, Area Based Development (ABD) under smart city plan will be carried out in wards within the city.
The ABD project includes 24x7 water and electricity supply, sewerage network, storm and waste water management, underground electric wiring, installation of rooftop solar panels in government and private buildings, waste management, collection, segregation (including e-waste and medical waste), creation of public/community toilets, implementing smart metering for both water and power lines, robust IT connectivity and digitalization, Wi-fi hubs in all public places, schools, public and private institutes and government offices.
Similarly, pedestrian friendly pathways including differently-able design, smart kiosk with integrated e-pathshala, e-medicine, digital literacy and e-service, encouragement to non-motorized transport (walking and cycling), healthy heart cycle track with rent-a-cycle scheme, non-vehicle streets/zones, e-rickshaw project, lED street lighting, CCTV surveillance with panic buttons and one touch emergency response button and other plans have been incorporated under ABD project.
Moreover, under PAN city project of smart city plan, intelligent transport system (IT tools for traffic management), Multi Model Transit Management System (MMTMS), smart parking, Raipur Smart Card (single card for all payments), GIS based decision making system (property tax, building permission and other such system), Raipur Smart City Application and other will be developed in the city, Dubey informed.
