Chhattisgarh Director General of Police (DGP) D.M. Awasthi on Friday honoured six police personnel for carrying out meticulous investigation that led to the swift award of punishment to a rapist whose crime had no eyewitness.
The top officer gave away the ‘super investigator’ award to the six personnel. Also, 51 police persons received ‘Indradhanush’ award for better work, a press release said.
“We should face the challenges boldly. Quickly arriving at the incident spots leads to quick success in a case. Police should investigate crime against women with more sensitivity,” Awasthi said.
When criminals get punished quickly due to better police investigation, then public faith on khakhi goes up, he said.
In a very complex rape case, quick and painstaking investigation led to the capture and conviction of the offender.
On July 2 last year, an unidentified person abducted a minor girl from her home in Bemetara and sexually exploited her. The man then fled. There was no eyewitness to the crime.
Police traced about 50,000 mobile numbers and an analysis of the GPS data led to the accused.
The victim identified the offender who was a truck driver, Suraj Prajapati, a resident of Saddu Raipur and a native of Gadhwa in Jharkhand.
Forty police persons were deployed in the case. Those given the 'super investigator' award are Deputy Superintendent of Police Rajiv Sharma, Inspector Rajesh Mishra, Sub-Inspector Neeta Rajput, Sub-Inspector Ranjeet Pratap Singh, Assistant Sub-Inspector Kanval Singh Netam and Head Constable Mohit Chelak.
