The Special Investigation Team (SIT) which was set up by the newly formed Congress Government to probe into Jheeram valley massacre, has written a letter to the National Investigation Agency (NIA) to get the case files for probe, Director General of Police (DGP) DM Awasthi said on Monday.
Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel suspects ‘political hand’ in Bastar’s Jheeram valley massacre of several frontline State Congress leaders by Maoists in May 2013, and he formed the SIT in his maiden cabinet meeting to expose the alleged conspirators.
Addressing a press conference here, the DGP said that 'bullet for bullet' policy will be followed to deal with Maoists although that’s not really a solution to Naxal menace.
“Police personnel who indulge in extortion would be dealt firmly and cops who do outstanding work will get 'out of turn' promotions,’’ Awasthi opined at his maiden press conference as the DGP of the Naxal-hit State. He stated that Crime Branch is becoming a place of extortion and it needs to be winded up.
He revealed that the law and order situation will now be reviewed in the first week of every month. He informed, “four days in a week I will be available in my office to go through cops grievances and even policemen and their families can come and meet me if they have any issues,’’.
“All the problems of police personnel would be resolved in PHQ so that they don't have to approach the court,’’ Awasthi remarked.
A Committee has been set up under chairmanship of DIG Neha Champawat which would go into grievances of police personnel. The other members of the committee would be IPS officers Arif Sheikh, Lal Ummed Singh and Sanjeev Shukla.
On the lines of Indian Army, a Police Canteen will be established in the State to ensure a variety of necessary items for cops at cheaper rate, he further said.
The meritorious children of policemen who are preparing for competitive examination such as Engineering and Medical, will be given free meals and some senior police officers will even coach them for competitive examinations, Awasthi announced.
