Singhdeo exposes corruption in Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan

The Congress has questioned the seriousness of BJP-ruled Chhattisgarh Government in the implementation of the Swachha Bharat Abhiyaan (SBA) and alleged that dozens of toilets being constructed under the scheme do not comply with the guidelines laid down for the scheme.

Congress legislature Party (ClP) leader TS Singhdeo, in his letter to Chief Minister Raman Singh, cited the instance of about 570 toilets built in villages lakhouli and Rewa within Arang area of Raipur district, where mosquito nets and the sticks have been utilized to make toilets and even the pit has been dug to a depth of mere 2 feet making it completely irrelevant.

Singhdeo expressed surprise that the cost of these toilets has been quoted at `12,000 per unit.

He also alleged that locals are being threatened with consequences like cancellation of ration cards or imposition of fines if they don’t use these toilets, which is also `atrocious’.

Singhdeo urged the Chief Minister Raman Singh to ensure proper implementation of Swaccha Bharat Mission (SBM) as the programme is the initiative of Prime Minister.

He also opined that explanation should be sought from the officials responsible for such violations and action be taken against them.
