Singh Deo alleges irregularities

Published on:

leader of the Opposition in the Chhattisgarh Assembly and senior Congress leader TS Singh Deo on Wednesday alleged irregularities in the medical entrance test conducted in the State and sought intervention of Chief Minister Raman Singh by writing a letter to him.

Singh Deo in his letter said that the entrance test was conducted on May 4 and the result was declared on June 7. However this year, the test was not conducted by the State government and instead the selection was made on the basis of the score obtained by the candidates in the All India Pre Medical Test (AIPMT).In may be worth mentioning that the Health and Family Welfare Department had framed rules while issuing a circular on June 16 this year whereas the examination was conducted on May 4.

As a result, a large number of students especially those from reserved category were deprived from being selected, he said in the letter. The State government in its circular said that the students of Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, and other back ward classes (OBCs) who have secured minimum 40 and 50 per cent mark in their examination can appear in the examination.

However this circular was issued after the examination was over, he said. Due to this, large number of students were deprived from appearing in the test, he said. Similarly, in the rules framed by the government for admission into medical colleges if the seats allocated for the State government remain vacant, they will be converted into management quota after the final round of counselling.

This rule has been framed to favour the state-aided and private medical colleges, he said.Under this rule, the reserved seats would be converted into management seats, Singh Deo said. While the private medical colleges will take benefit out of it, the students belonging to reserved category will be deprived from getting chances, he said.

Singh Deo has urged the Chief Minister to stay the admission process and ensure that the old method of entrance is adopted so that students of all categories take benefit out of it.
