The Chhattisgarh government on Monday urged people who recovered from Covid-19 despite uncontrolled diabetes and who took steroids and immune suppressing medicines to seek immediate medical help at the first hint of Black Fungus.
As of Monday, the state has reported a total of 264 cases. Covid patients who have undergone organ transplant have also been urged to report immediately if any symptoms of Black Fungus (mucormycosis) are observed.
Early detection and treatment will reduce the complications and even mortality, Dr Subash Mishra, Director (Epidemic), told the media here.
A total of 117 patients have undergone operation. There are 233 patients undergoing treatment while 15 patients have been discharged. The disease has killed 16 people.
Mishra urged everyone to follow the Covid appropriate behaviour of washing hands regularly, wearing a mask and maintaining social distance.
It will help the state from being hit by the predicted ‘third wave’ of Covid and people will also remain safe from Black Fungus infection, he said.
As the treatment of Black Fungus is long and costly, the government is ensuring best treatment by covering patients under different health schemes. Patients are being treated at AIIMS, Raipur, Medical Colleges and government hospitals in districts, he added.
