Following the complaints of power theft, the Electricity Department (General) of the Railways  detected as many as 120 cases of power theft, informed SECR’s Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Raipur division Ratan Basak.

At the time of action, the Electricity Department staff seized large amount of wires which were used taking illegal connections from Railway’s power lines, informed Basak, elaborating that due to these illegal connections, employees residing in Railway houses have to face the problem of low voltage.

These illegal connections put additional maintenance pressure on the Electricity Department of Railway, he said.

Calling upon people to refrain themselves from the illegal practice of power theft, officials said that the Railways can register FIR and also impose fine on people involved in power theft. Such practices bring lives of people residing in the region under threat.

Since, the matter is linked with safety of people, the Railway authority will continue its drive against power theft, stated Basak.
