SECR takes step to make ticket cancellation easier

The South East Central Railway (SECR), in pursuance of the announcement made by the Railway Ministry for introducing a new formula to make the cancellation process easier, has opened UTS-cum-PRS facility in about 30 stations with effective from December 1.

These counters will remain open round-the-clock and the passengers will be able to cancel booked tickets from the counters. Out of the 30 counters, 14 are based in Bilaspur division, 11 are in Nagpur division and five are in Raipur division.

However, the booking and cancellation facility in these counters will be available only for those trains which are scheduled within the next 24 hours.

It may be noted that after making cancellation of reserved tickets costlier, Railways introduced a new formula making the cancellation process more easier.

With this passengers will be able to cancel booked tickets from the counters, after the closure of Passenger Reservation System (PRS) at the major stations and even in those stations where there are no current reservation counters.

In the new system, SECR made at least one Unreserved Ticketing System (UTS) counter available with UTS-cum-PRS facility in the stations where passengers will be granted refund. “Currently in small stations, there is no provision for current reservation counter after 20.00 hrs for cancellation of tickets and passengers have to either wait till next morning when the counters open or travel to bigger stations to cancel their tickets”, a Commercial Department official said.
