State Election Commissioner PC Dalayi while holding meeting of deputy district electoral officers here on Monday, reviewed preliminary preparations for the forthcoming polls to be conducted for urban and three-tier Panchayat bodies.

In the meeting, Dalayi said that the polls for urban bodies would be held in November-December this year and that of three-tier panchayats during January 2015.

While giving necessary guidelines related to the polls, Dalayi asked the officers to prepare error-free voter list as on January 1, 2014.

Dalayi has sought district-level information about arrangements at district election office and postings on the vacant posts. He reviewed the sanctioned posts of Deputy District Electoral Officer, Assistant Superintendent, Accountant, Clerk and Peon and availability of necessary equipment like phone, fax, photocopier etc at the district election offices.

He told the officers that under the duties and responsibilities of the State Election Commission, services of employees of any department could be utilised for election purposes.

In the forthcoming urban bodies and three-tier Panchayat polls, he said, the polls would be held for 1.97 lakh different posts. He instructed the officials to prepare error-free, ward-wise voter list as on January 1, 2014 for both the elections. Dalayi said that one polling booth should be established for 1,000 voters. Physical verification of voter list should be done after visiting the limits of wards. Before deleting or adding name of voters, they should give opportunity for hearing.  He also sought information about the district-wise availability of ballot boxes.

In the meeting, discussions were held on the allotment during financial year 2014-15. Secretary to the Commission, IR Dehari, deputy secretaries SK Tiwari and SR Bandhe were also present in the meeting.
