There is a scope to create about 2.1 lakh new jobs in both organised and unorganised sectors across Chhattisgarh if the State’s economy sustains the existing 8.8 per cent growth rate during the course of next five years thereby spurting significant demand for employment across the State, apex industry body Assocham said on Tuesday.
In a note submitted to the State Government, the Chamber’s secretary general DS Rawat while suggesting a seven-point detailed ‘Action-agenda for new Government of Chhattisgarh’ in Raipur said, “Though combined workforce engaged in both industry and services sectors has increased from 21 lakh to 24.25 lakh during 2004-05 and 2011-12, there is still tremendous scope to create more jobs in these sectors”.
The Assocham projection is based upon the simple regression model according to which the assumption of employment generation is largely dependent on economic growth which has immediate effect on job creation, he said.
Assocham has also proposed to partner the State Government to implement and achieve the objective of its vision document for Chhattisgarh, Rawat said.
Under the able guidance and leadership of its dynamic Chief Minister, Raman Singh, Chhattisgarh has registered robust economic growth rate of 8.8 per cent higher than the national average of 6.8 per cent during 2008-09 and 2012-13, besides, the State has also clocked high growth in agriculture, industry and services sectors and remained ahead of the national average in all three aspects, highlighted the study prepared by the Assocham Economic Research Bureau (AERB), he said.
However, the State has been grappling with inadequate infrastructure, huge unemployment, rising industrial sickness amid marginal, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), Naxalism, environment related issues and other areas and much needs to be done in these areas for the state to achieve double digit growth during next five years, noted the study conducted under the aegis of Assocham Special Task Force on Chhattisgarh suggesting measures on a short and long-term basis, Rawat said.
On the governance front, Assocham has suggested the State Government various initiatives like - fight Naxalism through close co-ordination with Central government; carry out police reforms and implement stringent law enforcement; ensure project completion within stipulated time-frame; implement e-governance modules across the state; undertake skill development initiatives to impart vocational education to people belonging to lower strata; ban child labour and carry out labour reforms ensuring safety, security and health of people engaged in unorganised sectors, he said.
