Scindia slams Rahul Gandhi over ‘two-Indias’ remark

Union Civil Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday slammed Congress Rahul Gandhi over his ‘two Indias’ remark saying he might be referring to the pre-2014 situation in the country that was marked by corruption and lack of development.

He also alleged that the Congress-led Chhattisgarh government is not cooperating with him for expansion of aviation facilities.

Scindia was on a day's visit to Chhattisgarh and was interacting with the media at the Swami Vivekananda Airport.

He said: “No Indian citizen will give such a statement. My India is one and united. My country is a family which always carries the culture of brotherhood.”

The Minister said a new India under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi was being created, where the doors of development and growth have been opened.

Rahul Gandhi recently accused the Modi government of dividing the nation into two -- one of select billionaires and the other of common people.

Later, Scindia alleged that the Chhattisgarh government was not cooperating in the expansion of aviation services.

At present, the cargo facility at Raipur airport is 460 square metres with business to the tune of 15 tonnes. The plan is to expand it to 4,500 square metres which will increase the cargo business to 50 tonnes a day.

He said the state government is yet to hand over 24 acres of land to the Raipur airport to increase the length of the runway from 2,300 metres to 3,105 metres.

Similarly, the transfer of land to the Airport Authority of India has been cancelled by the state government in Bilaspur, he said.

“The Ministry's effort is to enhance aviation facilities in the state but without the support and work of the state government it is not possible. It is disappointing,” Scindia said.
