Chhattisgarh School Education Minister Premsai Singh Tekam on Monday ruled out the opening of schools by July 1.
Refuting speculation in sections of the media that schools can open from July 1, he said it is not possible to do so.
“In the month of July, we will assess the coronavirus condition and will then only take any decision,” the Minister told The Pioneer over phone.
"We have started to warm up the administrative machinery for readying the schools across the state to open in the latter part of July. However, we are not sure about the date," he said.
“The problem is that several schools have been converted into quarantine centres across the state. Until these centres are vacated and disinfected and approved by the Health department, we cannot start the classes,” he said, pointing that the current lockdown will end on June 30.
After the lockdown gets over, the government will start schools first in the Green zone. Also, high school and higher secondary classes will begin first as children below 10 years are more at risk of getting coronavirus, he said.
