Under the Sarv Shiksha Abhiyan, like every year, month-long school admission festival will be organised in Chhattisgarh in the beginning of the new academic session 2013-14 from June 17 to July 15.

According to an official press statement issued here on Monday, during the school admission festival, a campaign would be launched to admit eligible non-admitted and school drop-out children of the age group of 6 to 14 years in schools. Chief Secretary Sunil Kumar, in a letter issued to all collectors and district mission directors of Rajiv Gandhi Education Mission, urged them to take all necessary steps for the success of the school admission festival.

It was informed in the letter that as per the district-wise annual work plan 2013-14, there were 76,204 non-admitted and school drop-out children in the state. Considering this fact, 100 per cent children should be given admission in schools.

Through a notification the Central government had implemented the Free and Compulsory Child Education Rights Act-2009, in the state from April 2010. According to the provisions of this Act, each child has the right to get free and compulsory education from any nearby school. The non-admitted children of above 6 years, who have been deprived of education and not completed primary education, would be admitted into suitable class according to their age. Such children would be imparted with residential or non-residential special training as per prescribed manner and according to their need till they become equally knowledgeable of other children.

In the letter, the chief secretary said that the state government has launched an ambitious programme to give weekly iron and folic acid supplementation to all the children of the age group of six to twelve years in the state. The health department has been issued detailed guidelines of this programme. While issuing the time table, every Tuesday, half-an-hour time should necessarily be reserved for providing health facility to children in all the schools, he added.
