National Scheduled Caste Commission member Raju Parmar on Wednesday made a visit to Raipur Central Jail.There are about 500 inmates belonging to the Scheduled Castes and most of them have been jailed over land dispute cases.
He appreciated the efforts of inmates in operating a petrol pump and making handicrafts in order to earn extra income. The long-term prisoners are exhibiting their talent through preparation of handicrafts. Parmar said his efforts will be to get a STD booth established inside the jail premises so that the inmates can talk to their family members. The capacity of Raipur Central Prison is 1,190 inmates but due to some reasons there are more prisoners.
There is a proposal to construct an additional jail to house 1,500 inmates in Raipur. Chhattisgarh State Scheduled Caste Commission Secretary HK Sinh Uike and a number of senior jail officers were also present.
