Savarkar, Jinnah responsible for partition, not Gandhiji: Baghel

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday launched a scathing attack on the BJP and the saffron brigade and said Savarkar and Jinnah were responsible for India's partition, not Mahatma Gandhi.

Addressing a gathering at Gandhi Maidan, Baghel said the Congress government in the state was moving on the Gandhian path.

On the contrary, the saffron party was dividing people on the name of religion, the way which was shown to them by Savarkar and Mahatma Gandhi's killer Godse, he added.

“We were opposing the objectionable language used by the saffron brigade for Gandhiji and we don’t know their intention," Baghel said. He said it was important to know what great personalities around the world said about the Mahatma, he said.

Despite ideological differences, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose honoured Gandhiji with the title ‘Father of the Nation’ on a radio speech from Rangoon, Baghel said.

It was Rabindranath Tagore who began calling Gandhi as "Mahatma", he added.

Similarly, eminent scientist Albert Einstein had such high regards for Gandhi that he said the coming generations will not believe that a person like him was born with flesh and bones, Baghel added.

Baghel warning that people should be aware of people who fan communal hatred, calling them a "disease in the society”.

The country is facing the worst ever pandemic and it is the need of the hour to help each other and not fight on the name of religion, Baghel said.

The Chhattisgarh Congress on Friday staged a silent demonstration, “Gandhi Hamare Abhiman”, at Gandhi Maidan here to protest against the derogatory comment Hindu religious leader Kalicharan Maharaj made against Mahatma Gandhi.

PCC chief Mohan Markam and Ministers Ravindra Choubey and Kawasi Lakhma were present at the protest along with Baghel.
