Sarpanches to make Balrampur malnutrition free

Published on:

Sarpanches in Balrampur-Ramanujganj district of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday pledged to make their gram panchayats malnutrition free (Kuposhan mukt) and anaemia free (Anaemia mukt).

More than 100 sarpanches of gram panchayats in Balrampur took the pledge and agreed to promote 10 strategies to achieve this.

Balrampur Collector Indrajeet Singh Chandrawal sought the help of sarpanches to end malnutrition and anaemia, an official communication said.

“Every gram panchayat could develop a plan of action to end malnutrition and anaemia in their gram panchayats.  A district-wide exercise to assess the nutritional status of all 98,000 children below 5 years has been initiated,” Chandrawal  added. Job Zachariah, who heads Unicef in Chhattisgarh, said Balarampur can set an example on making gram panchayats malnutrition free with the support of Sarpanches.

There are 468 gram panchayats and 2,356 Anganwadi centres in the district.
