Chief Minister Raman Singh on Friday inaugurated the two-day national seminar on Kabir titled ‘Kabir : A Great Communicator,’ at Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication here.
In his inaugural address, the Chief Minister said the expertise of Kabir as a Communicator could be gauged from the fact that he used small sentences in the form of Doha and Sakhi.
“And about 850 years after him, we are into the communication techniques in the form of SMSes and twitters for our communication needs,” he said.
Singh further said that Kabir as a philosophy could not be bounded by time. “This is the reason that he is living in the lives of people in the form of oral tradition, as a social torch bearer and a guide,” he said adding that “Kabir is as relevant today as he would be in the coming thousands of years.”
The Chief Minister said he was proud to be born in the district that is named after Kabir and said Kabir lives in the hearts of Chhattisgarh. “The simplicity, truthfulness and the brotherhoodness for which of Chhattisgarhi people are known was due to the influence of Kabir,” he said.
later the Chief Minister called upon the students of the university to assimilate the teachings and values of Kabir in their life so that their professional engagements could reflect them among
the masses.
Speaking on the occasion Vice Chancellor of the University Prof. (Dr.) Mansingh Parmar said the basic objective behind the seminar was to reinvent Kabir as a Communicator.
“Though there has been deliberations on Kabir as a philosopher, as a poet, as a social thinker and as a saint, he as a communicator per excellence, has so far not been taken up in any forum. And this is the reason we took up the issue to deliberate upon,” he said. Dr Parmar further added that the university would make efforts for discussions and deliberations on Indian way of Communication along with the European and American thought process so as to give a holistic communication approach to the students.
